Darlong (Ethnologue ISO 639-3: dln)

Darlong is a Tibeto-Burman language group hailing from the northeastern state of Tripura under Core Central Kuki-Chin subgroup. They are living in parts of three northern districts of Tripura: Unokoti, Dhalai and North Tripura. The local organization, known as Darlong Hnam Inzom reported their total population as around 8461. According to Ethnologue the population of Darlong is 6,000. In Darlong, there are twenty five consonantal sounds and five vowels phonemes. According to Ethnologue, the language status of Darlong is 5, i.e. developing.

The Darlong community's origins can be traced back to the Tibeto-Burman ethnic group, believed to have migrated from the Arakan region in present-day Myanmar. They settled in the hilly terrains of Tripura and embraced the land as their new home.
