Khasi [ISO 639-3: kha & Glottocode: khas1269]

Khasi belongs to Mon-Khmer of the Austro-Asiatic language family. The community, known as the Khasi people, mainly resides in the Indian State of Meghalaya. It is also spoken by a fairly large population in Assam and Bangladesh. The population is estimated around 14,31,344, according to the 2011 Census. Khasi has been an associate official language of some districts within Meghalaya since 2005. Significant dialects of Khasi include Pnar, Sohra Khasi, Mylliem Khasi, Mawlai Khasi, Nongkrem Khasi, Bhoi Khasi Nonglung, Maram and War.
