Zou (Ethnologue ISO 639-3: zom / Glottocode: zouu1235)

Zou is an indigenous community living in Manipur and Mizoram states of India. The community is mainly concentrated in Churachandpur and Chandel districts of Manipur. Zou is a member of Northern Kuki-Chin-Mizo of the Sino-Tibetan language family. In a literal sense, ‘Zou’ means ‘Hills or People of the hills’ and another meaning of the word is ‘Complete’. According to the 2011 Census report of India, Zou is recognized as the mother tongue by the total number of 26,545 people.
