Deori

Deori tribe is one of the major indigenous communities. The Deori community was divided into four major tribes, namely Dibongia, Borgoya, Tengapaniya and Patorgoya. The name Deori is taken from the river Deori which flows in Arunachal Pradesh. Deori community settled in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. This community is commonly associated with the Bodo-Kachari group. They live in the area of Sadiya in Assam, Joidaam, Patkai foothills of Arunachal Pradesh, and the Brahmaputra Valley’s hinterland in Assam. Presently the native language is retained only by the Dibongia group.
