Abstract

Description

This is a conversation with Akkamma from Bantwala, Karnataka. The variety of Tulu she speaks is different from the variety spoken in Kasaragod. The Resource Persons use the help of Ramesh, who is an interpreter and the point of contact in the local area. Ramesh and Akkamma speak in Tulu and Kudiya; Ramesh then translates the talk in Malayalam for the Rps. They talk about the different varieties of Tulu, the temple of Kukke Subramanya, the basket (batti) made from 'vetha' vines, different 'gotras', and the politics of caste.
