Kashmiri belongs to the Dardic subgroup of Indo-Aryan languages. The communities mainly reside in Kashmir Valley and other areas of Jammu and Kashmir. The population is estimated around 67,97,587, according to the 2011 Census. The Kashmiri language is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. It is also proposed to be one of the official languages of Jammu and Kashmir.
