Kuki-Chin belongs to the Kuki-Chin-Naga branch of Sino-Tibetan languages. The communities are the “Mizo” in Mizoram and Manipur, the “Kuki” in Assamese and Bengali and the “Chin” in Burmese. The Kuki-Chin languages are, to a great extent, spoken in northeastern India, western Myanmar and southern Bangladesh. The population is estimated around 83,968 as per 2011 Census. Many Northern Kuki-Chin languages are spoken in Northeast India, especially in Churchandpur District, Pherzawl District, Kangpokpi District and Senapati District of Manipur while they are also mostly spoken in Chandel District of the state of Manipur, India.
