Kokborok/ Kokbarak belongs to the Boro-Garo branch under Sino-Tibetan languages. The indigenous communities are the Tripuri people of the Indian state of Tripura. It is also spoken by a fairly large population in other Indian states such as Assam, Mizoram, and in neighbouring areas of Bangladesh and the country of Myanmar (Burma).
