Tribal Literature of Gujarati

Abstract

Tribal Literature of Gujarat presents the oral literature of the various Adivasi communities of Gujarat's eastern belt. Along with literature the book offers cultural and linguistic descriptions of the various tribal regions in the state and features stories from each community in the original Adivasi language and in English translation. These stories and songs have been either transcribed by local intellectuals or have been originally composed by Adivasi authors themselves. The aim of this book is to document the written history of Gujarat's Adivasi languages, to offer the reader a glimpse into the narrative traditions of Gujarat's adivasis, and to offer the reader a glimpse into the narrative traditions of Gujarat's adivasis and to provide material for linguistic comparison.
