Abstract
This book is prepared to keep in view that it can be used by the second language learners of both Bengali and Odia. It would be worth to mention here, that, efforts have been made to avoid the archaic words because they are in the least use. Some jargon, technical and borrowed words have been avoided to smooth the way of picking up other basic words. Inflective words have also been avoided as the target of this common vocabulary is mainly the adult learners and they could inflect after the threshold level of learning. Poetic forms and words from remote dialects have also been avoided for their own reasons. Simultaneously, efforts have been made to place pronouns, verbs, words for days and months, numerals, kinship-terms, names of fair and festivals, names of artefacts used at home, and functional words separately for convenience of learners. This book will be useful for both Bengali and odia language learners.
